Normally I’d do a big spiel about how he is a cancer to the scene and the community in which we hold so desperately and dearly to.  But he says it all for me.  What do I need to do? To anyone reading this; you should be aware that I did not copy in the full conversations had on his Karl’s status.  It’s lengthy, and no-one disagreed with him.  He was basically lauded as a hero speaking what everyone was thinking.  Incredible. I was going to make them anonymous.  I’ve changed my mind. The only thing I’m going to do is encourage you all to reblog it, and share your thoughts on him and his ilk. I’m reblogging this as I’ve had a few messages/comments telling me that I am (and I quote) “fucking naive” and I just want to put some clarity on why this is wrong. This gentleman is sadly indictative on a growing trend from promoters/managers/booking agents.  Apparently, we need them more than they need us. Unlike in Europe, a musician is not seen as a respectable career option and as such, subsidies do not exist to help anyone working from the ground up.  Be they promoter or musician.  People like Karl aren’t helping. This promoter is lazy.  The bands he gets on are lazy.  If he did his research, he would pick out bands that are good for music and not for a crowd.  If the music is good, the crowd will come.  Not the other way around. Bastions worked from the ground up.  We played in our local (literally 2 min walk away) until we were banned.  Then we moved to another local and so on and so on.  Once we started travelling we asked for Petrol money, the promoters had no problem with this.  Why? Because they’re not dickheads and they wanted us there - not stuck on the M6 because we’d run out of diesel. Those that did have a problem with our request were promptly crossed off our gig list.  We went elsewhere. These sort of promoters exist because we let them.  Cut them off at the knees and support the ones that work with the bands.  Support bands that work with promoters. Fuck this guy. I could have a rant about this but to be honest, I ‘d rather not waste my time on this guy. On that note I simply leave with this… TWAT.
